Earlier today, Chicago-based third-party logistics and technology-enabled transportation services provider Echo Global Logistics said it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Reno, Nev.-based ITS Logistics, a 3PL focused on drayage and intermodal services.

Financial terms of the deal, which Echo said is expected to be completed in the first half of 2026, were not disclosed, with the deal subject to customary closing conditions and other regulatory approvals. Echo added that bringing ITS into the fold will establish what it called one of the leading transportation and logistics platforms, with pro forma 2025 revenue around $5.4 billion—expanding Echo’s scale and accelerating the evolution of ITS’s services through Echo’s technology.

“This acquisition represents a meaningful strategic opportunity for Echo and our customers,” said Doug Waggoner, Chief Executive Officer at Echo, in a statement. “ITS has built a highly differentiated set of solutions, including drop trailer and trailer pool capabilities, backed by best-in-class execution that delivers reliability and flexibility across complex networks. By applying Echo’s proprietary technology, advanced analytics, and growing AI capabilities to the ITS solution set, we will strengthen our value proposition for a broader range of customers.”

And Scott Pruneau, Chief Executive Officer at ITS Logistics said that joining forces with Echo marks an exciting new chapter for the company.

“Echo’s truckload brokerage scale, managed transportation platform, strong cross-border capabilities, and broad multimodal offering — combined with its technology platform and AI-driven innovation — will enable us to elevate our service offerings and provide enhanced value to our customers,” said Pruneau. “Together, we will be well equipped to help customers navigate the increasing complexity of today’s supply chain, offering smarter, more connected execution and powerful solutions that drive results.”

In an interview with LM, Echo’s Waggoner explained that Echo is acquiring ITS to improve and complement its transportation solution with an industry-leading drop trailer and trailer pool program, DropFleet, as well as its expertise in dedicated capacity, intermodal and drayage solutions, freight security, omnichannel fulfillment, while adding that the combined entity has significant growth potential and is better positioned to support complex supply chains across various end markets and trough any market cycles.

“ITS brings differentiated, asset-enabled solutions, particularly in drop trailer and trailer pool programs, dedicated capacity, and intermodal and drayage,” he said. “Echo brings scale, brokerage depth, cross-border capabilities, and proprietary technology. Over time, this combination allows Echo to support more complex supply chain needs with greater flexibility and resilience.”

When asked what ITS brings to Echo that was needed or missing, Waggoner said that through ITS, Echo is able to expand the solutions we bring to its customers, particularly those operating complex or high-volume networks that benefit from drop trailer strategies, dedicated capacity, and hybrid execution models. And equally important, he explained that ITS brings an experienced leadership team and talented employees who share Echo’s commitment to service, accountability, and continuous improvement.

From a staffing perspective, Waggoner said that ITS has more than 1,000 employees and, for now, will continue operating as it does today, noting that the companies will work quickly to bring their respective solutions to customers.

On a competitive level, Waggoner said that ITS has built a strong reputation across the industry for its innovative drop trailer and trailer pool solution, DropFleet, as well as its expertise in dedicated capacity, intermodal and drayage solutions, and complex supply chain design.

“Their team is known for a people-first culture, strong execution, and a relentless focus on customer value — qualities that closely align with Echo’s own values,” he said. “ITS owns or leases over 5,000 trailers.”

Ben Gordon, founder and managing partner of Palm Beach, Florida-based Cambridge Capital, and managing partner of Ben Gordon Strategic Advisors (BGSA), said that Echo’s acquisition of ITS reflects the company’s strategic expansion from truck brokerage into a broader range of supply chain solutions.

“This is a watershed for the evolution of an industry leader, and reflects the increased value of combined bundles of services,” said Gordon.

Echo has been active on the acquisition front for the past several years, having acquired various companies, including: Freight Saver in August 2025; Fastmore Logistics in November 2022, and Roadtex in May 2022, among others.

Prior to today’s announcement, Echo’s Waggoner told LM late last year that the company has been very active on the M&A front, having looked at different deals and coming close on a couple. He had hinted at an early acquisition in 2026, which ostensibly came to fruition with today’s ITS announcement.
